Comment on Entry: Dow Constantine and "Jane Doe" vs. The Seattle Times, authored by MarkGriswold
1. A King County politician that's a slimy philanderer in addition to being a slimy Progressive? Par for the course.

Posted by Jeff B. at October 28, 2009 11:06 PM
2. Hmmmmm. Request is made for anything about Dow Constantine and they issue THIS? This does not look good for Dow. It would help if he would explain this to the public.

Posted by Michele at October 28, 2009 11:38 PM
3. Wait a minute... Didn't the Seattle Times AND the Constantine campaign scream bloody murder when Hutchinson failed to disclose a PRIVATE and sealed court record, and now they are actively working to suppress a PUBLIC document from disclosure?

Okay... something smells here, at King County, and at the Times. Hypocrisy is not a leadership trait.

4. Susan Hutchison is the better option.

Hutchison has been endorsed by high-profile Democrats and Republicans.

SusanHutchison.com

Dow Constantine, "Chairman Dow," is the incumbent and King County needs a new direction.

5. #3: Good point, Candace. Very good point.

Annoyed by the double standard, citizens of King County? Then vote Hutchison and tell the purveyors of the double standard that you won't tolerate such.

Posted by Michele at October 29, 2009 12:21 AM
6. The 13 % point lead by Constantine in the recent Washington poll seems to indicate that it will likely be the 'good 'ol boy' scenario in King County once again. I was hoping it would be Ms Hutchison. Oh well, ANYone will be an improvement over 'good home-training' Simms. :)

Posted by Duffman at October 29, 2009 04:25 AM
7. Another lie by omission, committed by a biased media. Wake up, King County voters.

If Susan farts, it will be front page news.

Posted by JoeBandMember at October 29, 2009 04:27 AM
8. Aha... so yet again you present NOTHING, and claim that it's proof that your political opponent is a "philanderer".

Posted by demo kid at October 29, 2009 05:16 AM
9. So what you are saying Demo Kid, is that in order to clear Dow's name...or bury him, this should be fully disclosed prior to the election so that the voters can make an informed choice about the dtails within the complaint. If there was nothing to the situation, why would the restraining order have been issued?

Posted by Smokie at October 29, 2009 05:30 AM
10. All that it seems to prove is that apparently the Seattle Times (our investigative news of record...ha, that's a laugh) won't pursue the truth behind this story to the nth degree, and thus the voting public will be fact-deficient on this matter.

Posted by Duffman at October 29, 2009 05:36 AM
11. Mark--
Send Keith the Society of Professional Journalist Code of Ethics and emphasize the part about HOLDING THOSE IN POWER ACCOUNTABLE--
http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp

Also, understand that Keith has a boss who makes all the calls on where Keith can go on controversial issues like this.
FIND OUT WHO ERVIN'S BOSS IS CURRENTLY and contact him/her.

This story won't do much good if it is stonewalled until Monday as the vast majority have already voted. Holding off on this, after holding Hutchison accountable, is unconscienable.
The fix is in.

12. Agree with #11, there will be mass-mailings this weekend. :)

Posted by Duffman at October 29, 2009 06:20 AM
13. Maybe that's what Constantine's primary opponent, Larry Phillips, was talking about back in July:
"By contrast, I don't sit on a Belltown bar stool very often."

Taking a closer look at Dow's "sterling public record," this could be the typical story. Drunk on power, and maybe a glass of red wine, Dow gets himself into this. But, per usual, it's the COVER UP that gets him in trouble.

Posted by seasaw at October 29, 2009 06:26 AM
14. Jeff, over the last decade, who have more of the philanderers been? Mark, do you have link to an audio file? Seems like it's too late this run, but not a point to let go of until it's sorted out.

Posted by Gaytor at October 29, 2009 07:06 AM
15. In fairness, Constantine deserves a chance to comment. Email his spokesman Sandeep Kaushik at skaushik100@gmail.com.

16. Hey Gaytor, glad to see you read SP!

Unfortunately Kirby's show only runs live online. He does have some shows podcast but the last one is dated Oct 9th. If I find someway to get audio I'll post a link.

Posted by MarkGriswold at October 29, 2009 07:25 AM
17. Hey let's be fair, why is your address the same as the link you want people to go to contact Sandeep Kaushik? Sandeep, if it's you, what is your response? Something out of context? Can't comment on on-going litigation? Unfounded allegations that will be resolved? We at the Constantine campaign are busy buying off the victim with promotions and taxpayer money? I guess your statement on Goldy's pod-cast with Dwight Pelz was right all along Sandeep, liberal values are "Drinking and F%$#ing".

Posted by Smokie at October 29, 2009 07:34 AM
18. @9: If there was nothing to the situation, why would the restraining order have been issued?

Have you stopped beating your wife? There's a difference between trying to post the truth, and writing up an entire smear post based on nothing.

But then again, seems like this is par for the course on SP lately!

Posted by demo kid at October 29, 2009 07:59 AM
19. Once again, dumbo charges to the defense of the indefensible when we know his position would be, well, somewhat different if the perp had an "R" after their name.

Dumbo, you're the embodiment of hypocrisy and the leftist double standard.

Posted by Hinton at October 29, 2009 08:08 AM
20. So answer the question? If there was nothing to the underlying allegations, then why would you block the release of the documents? It's stated that the victim fears retribution, from whom?

You are really funny in a pathetic, true believer sort of way Demo. Rather than having the information made public and letting the voters decide the importance, you would like to see it buried without investigation.

Posted by Smokie at October 29, 2009 08:10 AM
21. The poll that shows Dow up by 13% is an outlier. All other polls I have seen, including the KIRO on-line poll show Hutchison up by a few points within the margin of error.

Looks like a close election, and from the political makeup of the Lib Prog voter base of Seattle, it will hinge on the number of those who have awaken from the state of apathy who vote -do people really care about change or are they just dialing it in ? There is also an unknown ACORN effect of voter irregularities that would act as a counterweight to a fair election. There's hope for change and I don't mean it like in Hussein Hopeandchange...

22. It looks like Dow might have to answer a question about this as early as this afternoon. If the question at The Stranger's Election Land post gets enough thumbs up, the alt weekly will pose the question to Dow. So go vote with your clicks (note: don't hold your breath though, as The Stranger is in the tank for Dow).

Posted by Jane Doe at October 29, 2009 09:00 AM
23. Get this: The Stranger has an "Election Land" control board meeting with Dow today where he's agreed to answer the alt weekly's questions.

One of the questions that popped up today is "Did you sexually harass a female staffer?" Think it'll get asked? If you know The Stranger, then you won't be holding your breath.

But if it gets enough "thumbs up" the paper will apparently pose the question to Dow!

Posted by publius valerius at October 29, 2009 09:03 AM
24. If Dow did harrass a female co-worker, would you expect him to answer the honestly?

Here, I will save you the trouble if the question is asked. There is nothing to allegation, the truth will come out, it's a political hit by my opponent.

Posted by Smokie at October 29, 2009 09:31 AM
25. It appears as though the Times will spike the story. I cannot find anything online.

Guess I'll have to cancel my subscription AGAIN, considering their misconduct as shills for Constantine and the No on 1033 and Yes for R-71 campaigns.

26. Good news is that at least KOMO 1000 ran this on their top of the hour news. Once again, the behind the times Seattle Times will be left navel gazing while others pick up this story from alternate news sources. Make sure Monson on KIRO am has this too as he can have a few days to beat Constantine over the head on the radio waves. Keith Ervin apparently lacks the testicular fortitude to move ahead with the story or has been quashed from doing his job by his editor.

There is no current paper of record in Seattle with respect to the profession of Journalism. Pretty sad for a state that touts Edward R. Murrow as a native son.

Posted by Rick D at October 29, 2009 11:41 AM
27. And we are surprised by this -- why? Clearly the Times suits decided to kill the story. I wouldn't put this on Ervin. And good for KOMO...now let's see if KOMO-TV runs with it.

28. How can the judge seal this record? If this alleged harassment happened on the property of King County offices, the taxpayer has the right to know and it has to be opened for the public. These 2 employees are public servants. The defendant is King County, a public entity. This Jane Doe can sue the county and taxpayers and Constantine is the one who should be responsible. Hutchison--get the judge to open the restraining order charges against Dow. They opened your files.

32. There is no "restraining order" against Dow. The restraining order is against King County to prevent them from releasing documents that could cause Jane Doe to lose her job.

There is no evidence that any sexual harassment occurred or was even alleged.

Posted by John Jensen at October 29, 2009 01:47 PM
33. OMG! Thanks for clearing that up; we can all now rest easy.

Posted by Duffman at October 29, 2009 01:50 PM
34. Hey John Jensen,

You seem to know quite a bit, so PLEASE tell us more.

Timeline: January 2009

Ron Sims is rumored to be tabbed for a job in the Obama Administration.

Dow's calendar shows meetings with campaign types... and of course they want to know if there are any stories from the past that could HURT him...

And COINCIDENTALLY OF COURSE at same time he notes that he needs to find an attorney for [name deleted but could it be Jane Doe?]

Said attorney just coincidentally being an old college classmate of Dow's...

And public records are suddenly under restraining orders?

With NO explanation from Dow. None.

SO - SINCE YOU KNOW SO MUCH:

Has Dow been accused of sexual harassment or has any county employee complained of offensive behavior?

Have any threats been made to Jane Doe to coerce her into silence?

35. The restraining order is against King County to prevent them from releasing documents that could cause Jane Doe to lose her job. ~ John J.

Could you please clue us in then, John, as to how a two week restraining order is going to affect whether or not Jane Doe loses her job? Seems pretty ignorant to think buying yourself two weeks until after the election is decided will really have any impact on the final outcome of the sexual harassment allegations. As usual though, it doesn't stop Jensen from making excuses for bad behavior by his Democrat party bretheren.

36. What is this cover up by the Council? Documents filed by Jane Doe to the council Human Resource staffer or to the court, it's a public document. Any piece of paper or e-mail in county government is public property. King County taxpapers should sue for full disclosure. Dow is unfit for any public office, remember he enforced the "whistle blower" legislation for King County employees.

I have no idea what Jane Doe's political affiliation is. Do you?

41. Since you couldn't or wouldn't answer the question @ 35, I'll ask it again, John:

Could you please clue us in then...as to how a two week restraining order is going to affect whether or not Jane Doe loses her job?

Posted by Rick D. at October 30, 2009 04:41 AM
42. I am shocked--SHOCKED!--that the negative campaigning against Dow Constantine went through the roof with allegations such as this as soon as polls began to show him overtaking Hutchison.

Clearly, this was an orchestrated something, but I cannot tell what, or by whom.

Posted by Joe Szilagyi at October 30, 2009 05:27 AM
43. Sounds like the person who got the restraining order wanted it kept private. Is that a cover up?

John

Posted by John Palmer at October 30, 2009 07:39 AM
44. I support keeping restraining orders private, to protect those who request them, who are often in enough danger as it is.

Susan Hutchinson did not have a legal leg to stand on in her request to keep her records (which are required to be public in all but very special circumstances) sealed.

Also, uninformed speculation isn't worth much. However, if Dow Constantine has been found to be kind of a creep in some record that IS public, it would influence my vote. But not so much that I would vote for someone as unqualified to hold the office of KCE as Susan Hutchinson plainly is.
