Only in Seattle does something this moonbatty occur.
Posted by Jeff B. at November 17, 2009 09:11 PMI'm learning that when something on SP sounds ridiculous, especially from Mark the Dow-slanderer, I should check the source.
There is no proof of King's party affiliation. He did fight for Democrats and against Republicans throughout his career. And his beliefs are even more strongly aligned with today's Democrats and against today's Republicans.
Posted by Bruce at November 17, 2009 09:52 PMSeems like you're the one making a big deal about it!
Posted by demo kid at November 17, 2009 10:11 PMDr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a registered Republican. And he would most likely still be, since Republicans represent the color-blind ideal.
There's a reason I call the Democrats the Slavery Party. Because it is the truth, regardless of your protestations to the contrary.
A most telling question: did you support California Prop 209 (spearheaded by Ward Connerly)? Which party supported it, which party opposed it?
Your color-blind society approach is in those answers...
Posted by Shanghai Dan at November 17, 2009 10:48 PMHopefully, you've learned your lesson and will now STFU about things you know nothing about... which seems to mean most everything.
Posted by Hinton at November 18, 2009 12:15 AMIf one left you a package under the tree, would you really want to open it without a bomb squad checking it out first?
Let's see: photos of Martin Luther King should all be redone in texts as a White man, maybe a Chinaman. The Easter Bunny should be redone as a giant toad from South America. Whenever there's a photo of George Washington, he's to be redone as a handicapped female from Tazmania wearing a burkha...
...see where this is going...
Posted by Namer at November 18, 2009 07:03 AMI welcome documentary evidence that shows any of the above. MLK Sr. was a Republican, but there's no evidence that Jr. was: as best I can tell it's mere conjecture based on circumstantial evidence.
All that said, it doesn't matter: the GOP of the 1950s into the 1970s was fairly liberal, and thankfully, the party has changed a lot since then. On race matters the GOP has always been, and is to this day, far more right than wrong (and than the Democrats), but on many other matters of the time, I am glad we've moved to the right.
I have never seen any serious evidence that MLK Jr. ever registered as a Republican, or endorsed, or even voted for, a Republican candidate for office.
You can probably contact the NBRA and ask...
On race matters the GOP has always been, and is to this day, far more right than wrong (and than the Democrats)
Yep, it was one of the reasons the GOP was founded - ending slavery! The Slavery Party refuses to acknowledge their own background, and lies about the background of the GOP. But what's new...
Posted by Shanghai Dan at November 18, 2009 07:55 AMIf you see someone impart to children that people come in all shapes, sizes and colors and what's important is what they have to say, then that's the Conservative way.
If you see someone impart to children that some people are in one group with a color, and other people are in another group with a different color, and then hey, let's sing a song about Obama, then that's the Liberal way.

Posted by General George Casey at November 18, 2009 08:59 AMThere were plenty of African-American Republicans... back then. Edward Brooke, the first African-American senator of the modern age, is another example. However, there's a big difference between now and then. With the party back in the 1950s and 1960s, Eisenhower was working hard to integrate the Armed Forces. After the Republicans coopted all those folks in the south disillusioned when segregation and civil rights passed, though, it's been nothing but a sea of white faces.
Not to mention that MLK was traveling to Memphis to support striking workers when he died. Hardly a Republican thing to do!
There's a reason I call the Democrats the Slavery Party. Because it is the truth, regardless of your protestations to the contrary.
Yeah, sorry, you're still a dick. Why don't you just call the Democrats the "Bimetallism Party"? It's just as accurate.
Posted by demo kid at November 18, 2009 09:50 AM"nothing but a sea of white faces."
You mean like LA Gov. Bobby Jindal? Or maybe RNC Chairman Michael Steele? How about Mel Martinez? Jaycee Watts? Condi Rice? Alberto Gonzales? Yea, the GOP really hates minorities.
"Yea, sorry, you're still a dick."
You sure have a way with words. That's a great argument. You've won me over.
Posted by Orpheus at November 18, 2009 10:18 AMBetter a dick than a pussy...;)
What party supported CA Proposition 209? What party opposed it? You know, that "create a color-blind society" proposition spearheaded by Ward Connerly... Which party wanted to keep race institutionalized, which party wanted to make Government truly colorblind?
Your party is the party of hate and race, and it refuses to acknowledge it's background. Sorry, but that's the fact. And your name-calling simply won't change them...

#39 Why are you lying.
No kidding. The Republican party could never get away with having a ranking Senator in a position of leadership that was once the Grand Kleagle of the KKK, wrote that he'd "rather see old glory dragged through the mud, than serve with the likes of race mongrels", voted against both black appointees to the SCOTUS (marshal/Thomas) and filibustered the Civil rights act of 1964 at the ripe young age of 48.
But the dems have a different playbook and set of rules to live by aided by their lap dogs in the liberal ideologues in the lamestream media that protect the reality of their party's past.
Posted by Rick D. at November 18, 2009 12:00 PMOthers have investigated and questioned and found nothing, and the NBRA, to my knowledge, has not produced. If they had evidence, I think they'd provide it. I won't spend my time hunting it down.
I remain unconvinced, due to lack of evidence, that MLK Jr. was a Republican.
I believe that now racism is in the process of migrating back to the left side of the political spectrum. We see the evidence with increasing frequency. Lefties in California trying to keep Asians out of colleges; race-baiters like Democrat prosecutor Nifong in NC; education policies designed to produce near 80% dropout rates in cities like Detroit w/ large black populations.
It is racism in a strange new form, but racism nonetheless.
Posted by travis t at November 18, 2009 01:25 PMin the interest of diversity, Santa should be gay.
On another note, I worked for Nordstrom for 12 years. It was the best place I've ever worked, and I had the coolest job ever (I worked in Display.) It makes me sad to see this.
How about transgendered? Santa in drag?
I have dark hair, brown eyes and a dark beard but am a garden variety white guy.
I can pretend to be a middle eastern Santa and get paid for it.
I need a job.
