8. RE: The contrived fiscal cliff:

There are two other options that might get more timely solutions to the impass in Congress; 1) GOP - Go with sequestration for military and continue pressing for spending cuts and give in partially to tax increases for those making over $500 K or $1M/year or 2) swallow their pride and embrace Simpson-Bowles (which most Americans liked) and hang tough on the spending cuts, which would also mean increasing taxes as in 1) but not as much as the Dems propose.

In spite of his actions, it doesn't seem likely that Obama really wants a second recession, unless he can effectively destroy the GOP - then it might be worthwhile to him. The two above ideas would make this more difficult unless they keep listening to these political consultants and don't find some new spokesmouths...

Democrats have not learned yet - for medicare, gas prices or any other commodity, price controls do not work ! (Remember that Cantwell wanted price controls on gas prices back in 2007)

18. COSTCO gives a lot of money to the Dems, but that company's management knows how to make wise tax decisions for its owners. It would be foolish to NOT pay-out the dividends to the owners because any dividends paid in 2013 and later will most likely be taxed at a much higher rate. It's the best decision for the owners, and they're the ones that count in any business.

As it turns out, Democrats can do tax planning, too. They're just not too keen on anyone else minimizing his or her tax bill to the feds. Those people (non-Dems) should pay full-boat when it comes to taxes.

Costco has a fleet of three Gulfstream buisness jets that I commonly see/hear while at Boeing Field. One of their Gulfstreams, albeit their smallest one, constantly goes to Washington DC and back. We call it the Lobby Express. Clever, right? Anywho, liberals take do note, Costco uses business jets which by your book makes them bad people.

Yes, this site shows a good deal of tolerance, allowing left-wing regressive extremists parrot the lies from extremist outlets like MSNBC, the Daily KOS, Moveon.org, Horsesass.org and Media Matters. This is permitted without banning leftwing extremists for the unhinged purveyance of falsehoods and propaganda - pretty generous and upholding the 1st amendment. What they call actual facts are typical propaganda, rewritten history and strawmen arguments. Pudge is a bit less tolerant of lies, but he's not here now. You pay particularly close attention to the saying "tell a lie often enough until it becomes accepted as truth", but only if it is not challenged.

The problem here is for Mike BS, tensor, dork, stevie and any other Obama-zombies that show up is that when your ass-umptions and assertions are challenged, your rebuttal fails to address the topic, changes the argument and you end up chasing your tails all in the name of believing its cool.

The actual unemployment rate now is not 8 % but more like 16%, after those who no longer receive UE benefits is factored in and who have given up looking for employment. If you look at the total number of new jobs created over the last 4 years, the average monthly number is far less than the number needed to sustain a constant unemployment rate. More and more people are unemployed now than back in late 2008. Although the increase in the unadjusted rate in November is a sharp contrast to the 0.9-point decline seen in October, November's 7.8% rate is still tied for the second-best unadjusted unemployment monthly reading of 2012. However, on an adjusted basis, November's rate is the highest reading in six months. Looking at year-to-year comparisons, seasonally adjusted unemployment is down from 8.9% in November 2011.

Underemployment, as measured without seasonal adjustment, was 17.2% in November, a 1.3-point increase since the end of October. The uptick in November also puts an end to the six-month trend of improvements or no change. Still, underemployment has improved 0.9 points since November 2011.

Reuters rightly notes that this particular drop doesn't tell us much, but the level is squarely within the middle of the range we've seen for the past 18 months. The economy is shedding jobs at roughly the same rate as we've seen for that period, and it's not generating jobs quickly enough to give those workers enough options other than unemployment.

With employers dumping employees into government-run insurance exchanges or Medicaid (which are still unsettled proposals), the future of health insurance will be taxpayers footing the bill. This is a huge money problem on top of the skyrocketing entitlement programs that already exist. But on a personal note, it's not the best solution for the under-employed or under-insured.

Take Dave Willingham, a 32-year-old interviewed by Huffington Post after taking a job at a community college cafeteria in Washington State. "When he recently accepted his job after a bout of unemployment, he was told up front that he would not be getting more than 19 hours per week. That's because workers who average 20 hours per week qualify for benefits like health care, vacation and sick pay, he said."

In his cafeteria job, Willingham earns a little more than minimum wage and receives food stamps. But this isn't the situation he wants for himself:

"That subsidy is a huge blessing for me," Willingham said. "But at the same time, I'd rather have the agency and dignity that would come with actually having more money coming in and getting to make that decision for myself....Ultimately, it would be nicer to feel more in control of my own life and destiny."

Becoming dependent on the government for health care is not a step toward personal control or an improved life situation for workers like Dave Willingham. But sadly, that is exactly where Obamacare is taking hourly workers.

Obama Promises to Increase Taxes on Small Business, Then Give Them a Tax Credit

Sound like déjà vu? That's because Congress and the Obama Administration passed similar hiring tax credits back in 2010--to no avail.

Just like the original, this remake of an old policy would fail to create long-lasting jobs because it doesn't affect the core question businesses ask themselves before hiring a new employee: Does the new worker increase the business's profitability over the long term? Businesses don't usually hire workers for just one year, so the credit won't change their decision-making process one bit.

One other obvious flaw is that Congress would inevitably be giving tax breaks to businesses that had already planned to add new payroll without the new tax credit. At best, a hiring credit might increase temporary workers. But even those jobs would disappear when the credit expires, leaving no lasting effect on the job market.

Obama Once Offered Revenue Without Tax Hikes

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government's reckless fiscal policies. ... Leadership means that 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit."

In 2008, then-candidate Obama criticized Bush for adding $4 trillion to the national debt, which most Republicans and Democrats did in an effort to avoid collapse of the U.S. banking system. Obama insisted, "The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion dollars for the first 42 presidents -- number 43 added $4 trillion dollars by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion dollars of debt that we are going to have to pay back -- $30,000 for every man, woman and child. ... That's irresponsible. It's unpatriotic."

Obama was against "taking out a credit card from the Bank of China" before he was for it.

Obama would later conclude, "This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy," and "interest payments are a significant tax on all Americans -- a debt tax that Washington doesn't want to talk about."

Indeed it is.

Now that Obama has added $5 trillion to our national debt in his first term, and is now bidding to double that, one might fairly deduce, "That's irresponsible. It's unpatriotic."

On raising taxes, in 2009 Obama declared, "The last thing you want to do is raise taxes in the middle of a recession, because that would just suck up, take more demand out of the economy and put businesses in a further hole. ... You don't raise taxes in a recession. We haven't raised taxes in a recession."

Obama was against "raising taxes in the middle of a recession" before he was for it.

On limiting deductions like charitable giving to raise revenues, he insisted, "There's very little evidence that this has a significant impact on charitable giving. I'll tell you what has a significant impact on charitable giving, is a financial crisis and an economy that's contracting. And so the most important thing that I can do for charitable giving is to fix the economy, to get banks lending again, to get businesses opening their doors again, to get people back to work again."

Obama was for "limiting charitable giving" deductions before he was against it.

So what is Obama's latest proposal?

He doubled his original $800 billion tax increase -- mostly on the "two percent," which recently doubled from the "one percent of wealthiest Americans" he used to reference. That $1.6 trillion is on top of the $1 trillion ObamaCare tax hike already on the way for all Americans. Most of Obama's targeted "two percent" are not the rich and famous, but small business entrepreneurs operating S-Corps -- like The Patriot Post -- which employ 55 percent of all working Americans. (Did I mention that free enterprise is the nemesis of Obama's "transformational plan"?)

On top of his double-down on taxes, Obama is proposing more stimulus spending, and the real non-starter -- he wants to delay further talk of cuts until sometime in the future.

What a deal! He offered a fiscal bluff to avoid the fiscal cliff, but claims he is "not playing those games anymore."

Obama's bluff is so absurd that Harry Reid will not allow a Senate vote on it -- worried that anyone on the Left will pay a political price for supporting such nonsense.

If progressives are having trouble adjusting to this reality, it is not only because they (mistakenly) believe means testing will jeopardize these programs. As William Voegeli observes in his 2005 book Never Enough: America's Limitless Welfare State, progressives' counterintuitive resistance to means testing also stems from a communitarian vision that sees universal participation in tax-funded social services as inherently good.

Voegeli quotes Robert Kuttner, co-editor of The American Prospect, who in his 1987 book The Life of the Party argued that "there is immense civic value to treating middle-class and poor people alike." According to Kuttner, "a common social security program, or medical care program, or public school program" fosters "social solidarity."

The above demonstrates that the leftist/regressives are not only paranoid about means testing and any reduction in entitlements, but void of common sense and any concern about cutting spending. No longer should it be a mystery. It is wrapped up their ideology/religion.
